What is the purpose of art, original art? My heart does not ask that question ever, but my mind, confronted with a chaotic world, often does. In a world where nearly everything people own is manufactured and where we totally rely on technology... I believe people suffer from a disconnection with creative process - and each other. Original art with its undiluted color, line, form, brush strokes, intensity - and even imperfections - is so alive! Viewing, experiencing and cherishing a piece of art in your own environment offers a special quality and a subtle energy that touches our soul. It gently reminds us of who we are, and allows us to explore the spiritual realm. Over two decades ago I chose to become a vegetarian for humane and spiritual reasons. In 1989 I embarked on nine years of service to a veterinarian. It was sacred work and a great joy to care for animals and their people. My paintings of plants and flowers covered the walls of the clinic office. One day, someone said 'you should paint animals! Will you paint my cat?'....and I said 'yes!'. That is how my career in animal portraits began.
Enjoying ANIMAL companionship and honoring wildlife offers us an opportunity to be balanced and whole. In the absence of their unique energy, we can so easily get lost in the illusionary, artificial worlds projected by our restless thoughts and a cold busy world. Sharing life with animals is a great privilege for me. They teach me, inspire me and are a priceless comfort. In my paintings, I hope to express what they give me, what they give us. Not just their beauty but also the mystery of their spirit - so powerful in their eyes, expression and body language. ART can serve as an ambassador, a translator - linking their world with ours. Often, I feel such a deep, powerful connection with these creatures. It is like entering another dimension and I feel a profound need to share their stories. Animal companions that share our lives are very special. They are not just cuddly, cute entertainment to fill our free time. These fascinating beings comfort us, teach us, heal us and give us strength, joy and inspiration.
